Those who jumped on the Peloton pandemic-bandwagon in 2021 and picked up their Tread+ treadmill only to learn it was subject to a recall now have more time to return it for a full refund.

Peloton has extended their window for customers to return their recalled workout equipment to Nov. 6, 2023. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has been pushing Peloton to fix the dangerous issues it possesses for children and pets since early 2021.

The recall addresses a real safety issue. Last April, a child was killed in an accident involving the treadmill, mobilizing the CPSC to alert consumers to stop using the Tread+. Initially, Peloton responded that there’s no reason for customers to stop using their products as long as they follow the safety instructions. The company later apologized for not taking action sooner and agreed to a recall. As they have yet to find a solution for the problem the recall seeks to address, Peloton has now agreed to extend the refund window for another year.

The CSPC has reported a total of 335 official incidents regarding the treadmill, and 87 reports of consumer injury. It has more recently disclosed 18 reports of the touchscreen loosening, six reports of the touchscreen detaching, and several warnings about the dangerous gap between the belt of the treadmill and the floor. In total, about 125,000 treadmills from the Tread+ line were recalled.

Peloton is currently working on a solution to the dangerous problem of users, children, or pets being pulled under the treadmill, causing serious risk of injury or death.

What to do if you own a recalled Peloton Tread+

If you own one of the recalled treadmills, Peloton is offering you a full refund until Nov. 6 2023. If you return it after the deadline, you will receive a prorated refund. Another option: Peloton will move your treadmill to a different, more secured area in your home, free of charge.

To contact Peloton, call 866-679-9129 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekends. You can also go online at www.onepeloton.com and click on Product Recalls at the bottom of the page for more information.
