Newton Falls Mayor Kenneth Kline is challenging other Mahoning Valley communities to find a way to outwardly show their support for the Ukrainians, facing brutal assault from neighboring Russia.
“It’s just sad what they are going through,” Kline said Monday. “We are 100 percent in support of them. They are in our thoughts and prayers.”
He added, when passersby see the water tower lights, he hopes it will help trigger their thoughts and prayers for the Ukrainians.
Newton Falls 4th Ward Councilman Chris Granchie echoed the mayor’s sentiment. Granchie, an Army veteran, on Monday wore a sunflower lapel pin – the national flower of the Ukraine – also to show his support for the nation that is battling the Russian invasion.
