Ajax suffered a blow this week as UEFA have officially banned their Bob Marley-inspired away kit during this Champions League campaign.
A fan favourite design it is, shirts were sold out within days of release in August but despite its popularity, UEFA claimed it goes against the governing body rules when it comes to imagery.
The kit had three birds stitched on its back right below the collar which was inspired by Bob Marley’s tune “Three Little Birds” due to fans chanting it home and away over the past decade.

Reaction to Ajax’s kit
“The European Football Association (UEFA) sees it as a different expression than the club logo, logo clothing sponsor or sleeve sponsor. Other expressions are not allowed”
Ajax Life
This will come as a blow to Ajax commercially as according to Ajax Commercial Director, Menno Geelen the strip sold four times more than any other in Ajax’s history.
“We had already responded to the interest of purchasing much more than ever. A record nymber of shirts were sold in one day”.
