Woman killed in crash in Braceville


BRACEVILLE — A Newton Falls woman was killed Monday afternoon as her vehicle crashed into several items in a closed lane. including a truck.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Warren Post is investigating.

The patrol received a call at 3:44 p.m. Monday about the crash on state Route 5 near Ravenna Warren Road.

Reports indicate Beverly M. Lutz, 80, was flown by helicopter from the scene to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where she died.

Lutz was driving a 2016 Buick Lacrosse eastbound on Route 5 in the left lane when her vehicle traveled onto the right shoulder, struck a traffic cone, an advanced lane closure warning sign, a construction barrel, and traveled through a lane closure. The Buick struck a 2017 International semi-tractor trailer parked in a lane closure on the right shoulder and right lane of Route 5 eastbound, a news release from the patrol states.

Assisting the patrol were Braceville fire and police, Newton Falls Joint Fire District, and Newton Falls police.
