DRU seeks PM’s intervention over Sagar-Runi homicide probe

Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) on Friday demanded the intervention of high minister Sheikh Hasina to accelerate the probe into the homicide of journalist-couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, reports UNB.

The call for changed into made at a rally organised in protest of the murder of DRU member journalist couple Sagar Sarowar, the information editor of Maasranga Television, and Meherun Runi, a senior reporter for ATN Bangla.

A memorandum may be issued to the home minister next Sunday stressful the trial for Sagar-Runi’s homicide.

“We will issue a memorandum to the President, the Prime Minister and the chief justice at the same demand,” stated DRU president Nazrul Islam Mithu for the duration of the protest.

Expressing disappointments over the exchange in the date of submission of probe document for 85 times in the remaining ten years, the journalist leaders stated, “We do no longer have confidence inside the police over the investigation manner.”

“Investigating officers are time and again failing to submit the probe file. That is why the intervention of the prime minister is wanted.”

Joint secretary preferred of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Sheikh Mamunur Rashid, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) president Quddus Afrad, DUJ wellknown secretary Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu, former general secretary of DRU Raju Ahmed, former vp of DRU Ajmal Haque Helal, former govt participants of DRU Kudrat-e Khoda and Moinul Ahsan spoke at the protest rally amongst others.

DRU organised a three-day software to demand justice for the murders of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi. Mahir Sarowar Megh, the only baby of the journalist-couple, and Runi’s brother Nowsher Roman had been gift at the candle lighting fixtures application at DRU premises on Thursday night.

Maasranga Television information editor Sagar Sarowar and his spouse ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi had been determined dead at their rented rental within the city’s West Rajabazar place on 11 February 2012.
