Part of the roof of the building collapsed, killing one person and leaving the couple trapped

One person has died after the roof of a multi-storey residential building in Gurgaon, India, partially collapsed. A couple is stuck in the building. The husband’s legs are stuck in the rubble. However, the wife was not found. The accident took place when the roof of a building located in Sector 109 of Gurgaon partially collapsed on Thursday night. News from NDTV

The roof of a seven-story living room in the 16-story Chintels Paradise Housing Complex first collapsed, according to a report by PTI. Then the roof and floor of the house collapsed to the second floor.

Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav said, ‘A man named Srivastava and his wife are still trapped in the rubble. Srivastava’s legs are stuck. Attempts are being made to rescue him. He is also being treated. However, the whereabouts of his wife have not been found yet. He is thought to have died.

A team from India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is working to rescue those trapped.

Kaushal Kumar, a resident of the building, told ANI that the roof of the seven-storey living room had collapsed to the second floor. He added that the incident took place in Tower D of the multi-storey building.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted that he was keeping an eye on the situation. Khattar said, “After the tragic incident of roof collapse at Paradise Housing Complex in Gurgaon, SDRF and NDRF members as well as administrative officials are conducting rescue operations. I pray that everyone is safe. ‘

Residents say the collapsed part of the Tower D complex was built in 2016.
