A Royal Caribbean cruise ship passenger goes overboard on a trip to Hawaii

A passenger on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship went overboard during a trip from Australia to Hawaii, a company spokeswoman confirmed to CBS News on Wednesday.

A Royal Caribbean spokesman said the ship’s crew was working with local authorities on a search and rescue operation. Quantum of the Seas left Brisbane on April 12 and was scheduled to arrive in Honolulu on April 28.

The cruise line did not specify when or where the ship was when the guest went overboard. A passenger on the Quantum of the Seas posted about the incident on social media early Wednesday morning.

Passenger Joshua Reynolds wrote on Facebook, “Three medical emergencies and now one man overboard.” “We’ve slowed down and are moving around now. Hopefully they’ll be found.”

CBS News has reached out to the US Coast Guard and Australian officials.
