MANILA – A 71-year-old American man was arrested after the body of his Filipina girlfriend was found in a water drum at the couple’s home near the Philippine capital, police said Wednesday. Police in the city of Bacoor told AFP they arrested the man on Tuesday after discovering the body of the 48-year-old woman inside a garbage bag and a blue plastic drum sealed with duct tape at the home just outside Manila.

Officers went to the address after the woman’s adult son had been missing for four days. Her son also told authorities he smelled a “foul smell” there, the police report said.
Police also recovered three knives and a rope and took the man into custody on suspicion of murder, it said.
“We are aware of the case. Due to US privacy law considerations, we cannot provide any further information,” a spokesperson for the US Embassy in Manila told AFP.
Police said an autopsy will be conducted to find out the cause of the woman’s death.
