Whether or not you were #TeamEdward back in the day, there’s no denying that every diehard Twilight fan had a soft spot for Robert Pattinson. What a lot of people don’t know, however, is that Rob’s catapult into Hollywood stardom started well before his vampire days.
The A-lister has come a long way, and his transformation from teen heartthrob to smoking hot leading man is incredible. He actually began his film career at age 15 by playing Cedric Diggory in 2005’s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Since then, he’s become a certified A-list star.
“I’m constantly doing risk assessments, which drives everybody crazy, trying to predict every single element that could possibly happen,” Robert explained to GQ in February 2022 before referencing his role alongside Willem Defoe in the black-and-white movie The Lighthouse. “And then, at the end of it, just being like: ‘Ah, f–k it! I’ll just play a lighthouse keeper who f–ks a mermaid! I think this is the right move!’”
As far as his rise to fame, the Tenet actor previously admitted it has been a “strange” journey. “You don’t have a normal life anymore,” he previously explained to GQ Spain. “You spend much time trying to fight it, but in the end, you find another way to live.”
The U.K. native divulged that many people “don’t realize” that it can be very “lonely” in the spotlight. “In any case, I feel fortunate because success didn’t reach me very young, at least, I had the opportunity to have a life before,” he continued. “When you become famous, it’s easy for some people to hate you just because you are famous. That’s why, sometimes, you beat yourself up.”
Robert has scored the starring role in 2022’s Batman, and his debut in the D.C. franchise is one of his biggest roles to date. He noted that filming the flick was like being in “a bubble within a bubble.”
“The nature of the shoot was so kind of insular, always shooting at night, just really dark all the time, and I felt very much alone. Even just being in the suit all the time. You’re not really allowed out of the studio with the suit on, so I barely knew what was going on at all outside,” he told GQ in February 2022.
How did he pass the time? The answer may surprise you. “I’d be in the tent just making ambient electronic music in the suit, looking over the cowl,” Robert said. “There’s something about the construction of the cowl that makes it very difficult to read books, so you have to kind of almost lean forward to see out of the cowl.”
