The NCIS Season 2 Scene That Went Too Far

In the final episode of “NCIS” Season 2, “Twilight,” one of the show’s main characters, Caitlin “Kate” Todd (Sasha Alexander), is killed off the series in a shocking way after being an essential part of the team for the first two seasons. In the episode, Kate, Gibbs (Mark Harmon), McGee (Sean Murray), and DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) are all caught in a rooftop shoot-out. One of the shooters fires off a round at Gibbs, and Kate dives in front of him to take the bullet. After the suspect is shot and killed, the team comes together to check Kate. She stands up, reassures them she’s fine and is then killed by a gunshot wound to the head.

The emotional and devastating scene left a lot of fans both sad and confused as to why one of their favorite characters was being killed off. “Kate’s death has just broken me. It was so unexpected. My heart hurts,” one since-deleted Reddit user posted. The episode became a catalyst for a further plotline that would introduce Kate’s replacement, the well-loved character of Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), but even with such a great character on the way, the Season 2 finale still hits fans hard after all these years. “Whenever I rewatch it, it’s just as shocking and heartbreaking. Kate was the bomb,” u/bi_geek_guy added later on the post.

While “NCIS” is always a good go-to show for those that like crime dramas that keep you on the edge of your seat, sometimes it can go too far, and the Season 2 finale is the perfect example of this.
