Abbott Takes 5 Wickets As Hampshire Crush Worcestershire

South African bowler Kyle Abbott took 5 wickets for Hampshire in their Group A game against Worcestershire in the Royal London Cup.

Thursday’s Hundred games between Manchester Originals and Southern Brave will be reviewed in tomorrow’s column as well as this evening’s games between Welsh Fire and Trent Rockets.

Hampshire vs Worcestershire (Group A)

Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat first.

Jack Haynes would be bowled by Kyle Abbott for 14 before Tom Fell would be caught by Felix Organ off the bowling of Turner for 7. Jake Libby would fall LBW to Fuller for 12 before Brett D’Oliviera would be bowled by Ian Holland for 40.

Gareth Roderick would be caught by James Fuller off the bowling of Abbott before Ed Barnard would be caught by Joe Weatherley off the same bowler for 29. Joshua Dell would fall to the same combination for 2 before Josh Baker would also fall to the Weatherley/Abbott combination without scoring. Charlie Morris would be caught & bowled by Turner for 5 before Adam Finch would be the final wicket to fall, caught behind by Lewis McManus off Turner’s bowling for 1 – captain Joe Leach would finish 34 not out.

Tom Prest would be caught by D’Oliviera off the bowling of Finch for 12 before Tom Alsop would be caught by Leach off the bowling of D’Oliviera for 50. Nick Gubbins would be caught behind by Roderick off the same bowler for 59 before Weatherley would be the final wicket to fall, stumped Roderick off the bowling of Baker, for 33 – Holland and McManus finishing with 2 and 6 not out respectively.

Hampshire travel to Gloucestershire later today while Worcestershire host Sussex at the same time.

Derbyshire vs Nottinghamshire (Group B)

Nottinghamshire would win the toss and elect to field in a game that was reduced to 27 overs per side.

Mitchell Wagstaff would be caught by Sol Budinger off the bowling of Joey Evison for 16 before Harry Came would be LBW to Liam Patterson-White for 57. Brooke Guest would be bowled by the same bowler for 8 before Alex Hughes would be LBW to Dane Paterson for 25.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice would be caught by Peter Trego off Patterson-White for 9 before Tom Wood would be dismissed off the final ball of the innings, caught by Hutton off the bowling of Luke Fletcher for 109 off 59 balls – Mattie McKiernan would finish 21 not out.

Sol Budinger would be caught behind by Brooke Guest off Hudson-Prentice’s bowling for 1 before Matthew Montgomery would be caught by Wagstaff off the bowling of Thomson for 26. Thursday’s action begins with Durham hosting Lancashire at Gosforth. The visitors won the toss and elected to field first.

Graham Clark would fall LBW to Tom Bailey for 21 before Scott Borthwick would be run out by Liam Hurt for 1. Cameron Bancroft would be LBW to Danny Lamb for 3 before opener Alex Lees would be LBW to Jack Morley for 59.

David Bedingham would be caught & bowled by Hurt for 60 before Liam Trevaskis would be the final wicket to fall, LBW to Morley, for 2 – Sean Dickson (103 off 76 balls) and Luke Doneathy (69 off 53 balls) putting on an unbeaten 156 for the seventh-wicket partnership.

Leicestershire won the toss and elected to field first.

Hamish Rutherford would be caught by George Rhodes off the bowling of Will Davis for 1 before Steven Reingold would be LBW to Rhodes for 38. Kiran Carlson would fall the same way for 11 before a 123-run partnership between Nick Selman and Billy Root would be ended with the latter also falling LBW to Rhodes for 67 off 60 balls.

James Weighell would be cuaght by Ed Barnes off the bowling of Gavin Griffiths for a second-ball duck before Joe Cooke would be caught by Rhodes off the bowling of Barnes for 5. Opener Selman would be run out by Barnes for 140 off 144 balls before Tom Cullen would be the final wicket to fall, caught by Rhodes off the bowling of Davis for 2 – Andrew Salter and Lukas Carey finishing with 1 and 0 not out respectively.
