UNIONTOWN — A Newton Falls man has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting Sunday in the Stark County community of Uniontown.
Nicholas Oostdyk, 41, of Newton Falls was pronounced dead about 8:10 p.m. after he was taken to Akron City Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the news release from Uniontown police.
Police responded to a report of a shooting about 7:27 p.m. at a home on Starlight Circle in Uniontown. Upon arrival, the news release stated, officers found a suspect, identified as Alfred Lee Johnson, 74, outside the home.
Johnson was later placed under arrest after questioning and then transported to the Stark County Jail. The report states Johnson was charged with murder.
The Summit County medical examiner conducted an autopsy on Oostdyk on Monday and ruled his death a homicide. According to Gary Guenther, chief investigator, Oostdyk died of gunshot wounds to the head and torso.
