Unbeaten Lees Century Sees Durham Home In Final Over

An unbeaten century from opener Alex Lees saw Durham victorious in the final over of a rain-affected program of Royal London Cup action on Sunday. Middlesex’s home game against Gloucestershire was cancelled due to Covid-19 in the visitors’ camp (no news on whether it affects their game at Kent on Thursday at this stage).

Sunday’s Hundred games between Oval Invincibles and Trent Rockets will be reviewed in tomorrow’s column alongside today’s action between the Birmingham Phoenix and Welsh Fire.

Durham vs Essex (Group A)

Durham would win the toss and elect to field first in a game that was reduced to 45 overs per side.

Sir Alastair Cook would be caught by David Bedingham off the bowling of Chris Rushworth for 12 before Nick Browne would be caught behind by Cameron Bancroft off the bowling of Jack Campbell for 3. Tom Westley would be caught by Liam Trevaskis off the bowling of Rushworth for 18 before a partnership of 101 between Feroze Khushi and Josh Rymell would be ended with the latter caught by Liam Doneathy off the bowling of Campbell for 40.

Ryan ten Doeschate would be caught by Scott Borthwick off the bowling of Paul van Meekeren for 21 before Khushi would be the last wicket to fall, caught by sub fielder Crawshaw off the bowling of Campbell, for 109 off 111 balls – Simon Harmer and Aron Nijjar finishing 12 and 0 not out respectively.

Chasing an adjusted target of 232 from their 45 overs, the hosts lost Graham Clark as he was caught by Khushi off the bowling of Nijjar for 24 before Borthwick would be bowled by Harmer for 21. Bancroft would be LBW to the same bowler for 5 before Bedingham would be bowled by Benkenstein for 2.

Sean Dickson would be caught by Allison off the bowling of ten Doeschate for 23 before Trevaskis would be caught behind by Browne off Allison’s bowling for 12. Doneathy would be run out by Rymell for 13 before van Meekeren would be the final wicket to fall, stumped by Browne off the bowling of Westley, for 1 with Lees (126 off 132 balls) and Rushworth (0) seeing the hosts home with 5 balls to spare.

Durham travel to Worcestershire on Tuesday while Essex host Sussex at the same time.

Kent vs Hampshire (Group A)

Hampshire won the toss and elected to field first in a game that was reduced to 24 overs per side.

Tawanda Muyeye would be bowled by Turner for 24 before Ollie Robinson would be caught by James Fuller off the bowling of Ian Holland for 27. Jack Leaning would be caught & bowled by the same bowler for 11 before Harry Finch would be caught by Nick Gubbins without scoring to give Holland his third wicket.

Darren Stevens would be caught by Felix Organ off Holland’s bowling before Grant Stewart would be run out by Tom Scriven for 4. Joe Gordon would be caught by Organ off the bowling of Scriven for 9 before Harry Podmore would be bowled by Currie for 8. Hamidullah Qadri would be LBW to the same bowler for 5 before Matt Quinn would be caught by Tom Prest off the bowling of Kyle Abbott without scoring – Nathan Gilchrist would finish 6 not out as the hosts went from 63/1 to be bowled out for 105.

Yorkshire would win the toss and elect to field first in a game that would be reduced to 10 overs per side.

Mitchell Wagstaff would be bowled by George Hill for 22 before Tom Wood would be the first of 3 wickets to fall in the 6th over, caught by Will Fraine off the bowling of Josh Sullivan for 9. Brooke Guest would be stumped by Harry Duke for a golden duck before Alex Hughes would be caught by Matthew Revis for another golden duck.

Opener Harry Came would be caught by Gary Ballance off Sullivan’s bowling for 28 off 18 balls before Mattie McKiernan would be caught by Fraine off the bowling of Matthew Waite for 6 – Fynn Hudson-Prentice (38 off 17 balls) and Anuj Dal (0) were the not out batsmen.

Matthew Montgomery would be caught by Cullen off the bowling of James Weighell for 1 before Lyndon James was forced to retire hurt due to concussion for 3 with Liam Patterson-White the fourth wicket to fall, caught by Steven Reingold off the bowling of Joe Cooke for 1.

Rob Keogh would be bowled by Marchant de Lange for 35 off 30 balls before Saif Zaib would be bowled by Baker for 29 off 17 balls.
