MECCA — Fire this morning destroyed Chrissy’s Lake Tavern, 6071 state Route 46 NE. Firefighters remain on the scene at this hour.

Cortland fire Chief David Rea said firefighters had problem getting water. The usual hydrants on Mosquito Lake Reservoir were dry because of frozen lake. Firefighters had to ship water in from Cortland, which is about a five-mile round trip.

Owner Chrissy long of Cortland said she bought the bar four years ago and recently put in about $250,000 in renovations.

A neighbor said the fire started in rear outside building, but Rea would not speculate on where it started. He said most of flames were in rear of building when they arrived. The call came in to 911 at 7:53 this morning with a report that flames were bursting through the roof on the west side of the building.

About 10 to 12 departments fighting fire. At 10 a.m., a Bazetta ladder crew started watering hot spots from above.

No injuries were reported. An investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s Office is now on the scene.
