What value does Ukraine have to US?

DEAR EDITOR:

As a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Middle East during the Iraq War, it really bothers me where the Biden Administration has taken our country. The latest issue is how Biden handled the situation with Ukraine / Russia, i.e., sanctions, which has a direct affect to the well-being of the United States. Putin has the support of China’s government and these sanctions are going to do nothing; too little, too late.

Biden talks about sovereignty of Ukraine’s border and defending their Democracy, but what about our southern border? We have fentanyl coming through the border, human trafficking and individuals who Department of Homeland Security know nothing about — just release them with a notice to appear. I am all for “legal” immigration, and if you are here “illegally,” but are contributing to society, then I feel you should be given a pathway to become a “valid” Green Card holder.

Back to Ukraine, I do not care what a political affiliation someone has, but the fact that this administration cares more about a country that serves no advantage to U.S. It appears to be a “wag the dog” scenario to draw attention away from our sagging economy, high crime rate, inflation, skyrocketing food costs and gas.

Biden said in his address to the American people Feb. 22, “Like I said last week, defending freedom will have costs for us as well and here at home. We need to be honest about that.” Which leads to the question, what costs? Biden has shut down the Keystone pipeline and stopped drilling for oil in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). The rising cost of energy has a direct and waterfall effect to consumers. It costs companies more to ship goods, and those costs are passed down to the consumer.

Is “Green Energy” the solution? There are not enough solar panels, wind turbines and EV charging stations in the U.S., let alone infrastructure to support it. Where do they think the electricity for EV charging stations comes from? The energy comes from coal, which is still the backbone of our electrical power.

If Biden would allow the U.S. to remain energy independent, we would not have skyrocketing gas prices and heating costs. Then we would not be affected by what’s happening with Ukraine / Russia. Now you have U.S. beholden to the oil cartel’s and begging OPEC for help.

Biden ran on the fact the adults are going to be back in charge and he will govern as a moderate. That basically changed within hours after he was inaugurated as president. The ineptitude of this administration is astounding. They are completely tone deaf to what’s important to the American people.
