The news comes after the Writers Guild of America announced Friday afternoon that it plans to picket outside the event, which will be held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
In a statement to CBS News on Friday night, Bruce Gilmer, Paramount Global’s president of music, talent, programming and events, said the show “will be far from a live event that enables us to create a memorable night full of exclusive, sneaky, offbeat segments that our audience has come to expect. , and countless moments that will surprise and delight as we honor the best of film and TV of the past year.”
No further details on the format were immediately provided. Before Friday’s announcement, organizers had already decided not to hold a red carpet or pre-show celebrity interviews. The show will air Sundays at 8pm Eastern Time on MTV, but it’s unclear if it will still be held at Barker Hangar.

Barrymore announced Thursday that he was stepping down from hosting duties in “solidarity” with the WGA’s more than 11,000 members who went on strike Tuesday, their first in 16 years, after failing to negotiate a new three-year contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the trade group that represents major Hollywood studios such as Netflix, Sony, Disney, Paramount, NBC Universal, Amazon and Apple.
