Kung Fu Panda 4 is barreling past a major domestic box office milestone. The movie is the fourth theatrical installment in the animated franchise, which follows the anthropomorphic panda Po (Jack Black) on his journey before and after becoming a kung fu master. The movie opened at the box office with $57.9 million, the second-best debut of the franchise by a substantial margin, behind only the $60 million opening of the original movie in 2008.
Per Variety, the Kung Fu Panda 4 box office is currently projected to end its third weekend in theaters with a 3-day domestic total of $14.5 million. This will push its cumulative domestic total past the $130 million milestone. It is only the second 2024 release to pass that benchmark behind the smash hit science fiction epic Dune: Part Two, which opened the weekend before.
