The Euphoria Line Fans Thought Was Way Too Cringey

Everything seems to hit the fan in this episode. When Rue (Zendaya) makes her way to the Howards’ house, she detracts attention away from herself, who’s currently in the midst of withdrawal, by letting the cat out of the bag that Cassie has been sleeping with Nate (Jacob Elordi), i.e., Maddy’s ex-boyfriend, for a while now. This doesn’t sit well with Maddy (rarely anything does), who promptly flips out and says, “I’m literally gonna get violent.”

Getting violent is absolutely within Maddy’s wheelhouse, but it’s the line itself that fans have taken umbrage with, like @theericklouis on Twitter writing, “No shade…the part where maddy says ‘I’m literally gonna get violent’. I cringed a bit.” The line didn’t fare much better on Reddit, where one user started a thread dedicated solely to the threat: “‘I’m literally gonna get violent!’ is such a bad line!”

Others were quick to chime in agreement with comments rolling in like, “this whole scene gave me second hand embarrassment” and “The scene was written the way TikTok comment sections sound.” Granted, not everyone was of that opinion. Redditor u/maaakus96 wrote, “how is it a bad line haha i feel like it’s a pretty reasonable and well delivered response in the moment of the situation.”

Whether you liked or loathed the line, it’s all another day in the life for the folks on “Euphoria.”
