In Indonesia, boys won silver and girls won bronze

Bangladesh is getting one success after another in the rifle event of the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Grand Prix tournament in Jakarta, Indonesia.

On the first day, Nafisa Tabassum of Bangladesh won bronze in the women’s singles in the 10m air rifle. After that, Nafisa also won bronze in the mixed team event by teaming up with Yusuf Ali.

Despite raising hopes in the boys’ 10m air rifle team event today, Bangladesh failed to win gold and won a silver medal. Shovan Chowdhury, Rabbi Hasan and Yusuf Ali took part in this event.

Bangladesh won the silver medal after losing to Singapore in the final. In the thrilling final, Singapore’s Guy Tianuri, Lionel Zheng Joi Wong and Leighton Marat Veloso all scored 16. Bangladesh shooters scored 14 points.

Besides, Nafisa Tabassum, Syeda Atkia Hasan and Sajida Haque’s Bangladesh team won bronze in the girls’ 10m air rifle team event. The score of bronze winning Bangladesh team is 617.2. Earlier, Bangladesh girls scored 924.1 in the qualifying round. Indonesia and Singapore have reached the final of this event. On the way to the final, Indonesia scored 828.5 points. And Singapore’s score is 622.5.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh-1 team has been eliminated from the semifinals of the air pistol mixed event. Shakil Ahmed and Anjila Amjad took part in this team.

Bangladesh’s success in rifle event in international competition – drought is long. Rifle has not had much success since Swedish Rifles coach Claus Christiensen left his job in 2016 out of arrogance with federation officials.

The Bangladesh Shooting Sport Federation had relied on local coaches for so many days for this event. However, Mohammad Zayer Rezai was brought in from Iran as a coach last month. The shooters of Bangladesh have started reaping the benefits of one month of practice under this coach who has achieved success in the international arena.
