PNC closing Howland, Canfield branches

PNC plans to close two branches in the Mahoning Valley — its Howland location, 8215 E. Market St., and its Tippecanoe location, 3667 Starr Centre Drive, Canfield, the Pittsburgh-based bank confirmed Wednesday.

Operations at Tippecanoe will be consolidated with the bank’s Boardman location, about 3 miles away at the Southern Park Mall. The Howland branch will be consolidated with a Niles branch, the McKinley branch at 5995 Youngstown Warren Road, about 2 miles away.

The last day both branches will be open is May 20.

Craig Friedman, vice president, regional media relations for PNC, said shifts in how customers do their banking are “important inputs that inform our branch consolidation decisions.” PNC customers, he said, have taken advantage of banking through non-branch ways, changing how they use the brick-and-mortar locations.

The bank, he said, does its best to reassign staff to other positions in the bank.

“This may include moving to another branch or into a different type of role. We aim to provide opportunities for employees that are a good fit for them based on their skills and experience,” Friedman said.
