TCTC teacher accused of assault

CHAMPION — A cosmetology teacher at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center was accused Tuesday of assaulting a student in class.

No criminal charges have been filed against the teacher, authorities said.

According to a Trumbull County 911 report, authorities were called about 8 p.m. Tuesday to take a report about the alleged assault that occurred at the school located off Educational Highway in Champion.

A 911 report states the caller from Howland told dispatchers his “16-year-old daughter was assaulted by her teacher at cosmetology class today” and she had marks on her neck. The caller reported that the “whole class” witnessed the assault.

“The district was made aware of the allegations on Feb. 15, at approximately 1:20 p.m,” Morgan Tondo Cretella, a spokewoman with the district, said. “We immediately began an investigation of the allegations.”

The investigation is ongoing and no decision has been made regarding discipline, Cretella noted.

The teacher has been employed at TCTC for 20 years with no previous disciplinary actions.

Champion police also took a report about the incident. Township police Chief Jeff White could not be reached about the incident.
